Herzog – Shimoney St. Compound, Old Katamon, Jerusalem

On the edge of Old Katamon, this compound will replace 80 apartments in 7  mid-rise buildings with approximately 260 new apartments in five  9  and  14 -story buildings

The deep slopped site built in two plateaus borders two streets, the lower a main vehicular route adjoining one of the Jerusalem’s main parks, where the upper a street connects the neighborhood’s apartment and public buildings. The   design scheme rearranges the location of a new building to propose 12 story buildings with arcaded storefronts along the lower main road, and 8 story buildings along the upper street, all weaved by a network of pedestrian domain.

The design responds to Jerusalem’s stone-and-glass façade requirements offering varied balcony positions viewing the park  for all apartments.  The massing and urban interface define a contemporary residential compound in the Katamon district.
